History, Minutes, and Financial Reports 1895-1955.

This series comprises records of the Association for the Distribution of Missionary Literature (ADML) of the American Lutheran Church (ALC). They are from 1895-1955 and were generated through the course of recording the administrative matters of the ADML. There are two bound notebooks containing handwritten and printed entries of meeting minutes and financial reports. There are also several typewritten looseleaf sheets with information pertaining to the organization in its later years. The first notebook contains a brief history of the origins of the ADML and minutes from ADML annual meetings and Executive Committee meetings from 1895-1947. From 1895-1930 the majority of entries contain proceedings from ADML annual meetings and Executive Committee meetings. To view annual meeting proceedings that are missing from the notebook prior to 1930, consult JSO 0/0 Convention Proceedings and Minutes, Joint Synod of Ohio and Its Districts, 1818-1930. The ADML annual meeting report appears in these volumes as an appendix to the annual convention minutes for the English District. Unfortunately for years from 1895-1930, Executive Committee meeting minutes are missing and there is no alternate source available in which to view them. In this notebook, the majority of entries from 1930-1947 are only copies of Executive Committee meetings. To view annual reports filed by the ADML and published in the annual convention minutes of the Ohio District, consult ALC 67/1 Ohio District Minutes, 1930-1960. No minutes for either Executive Committee or annual meetings exist after 1950. The only source with information about the ADML after 1950 is in the second notebook. The second notebook primarily contains ADML financial reports from 1915-1955. Entries contain yearly listings of receipts and disbursements and the balance at the end of the reporting year. At the beginning of the notebook are listings dated 1917 and 1919 and are of persons who would be receiving particular mission periodicals. In addition to these notebooks there are a few pieces of looseleaf printed materials that comprise three copies of correspondence dated 1951 and pertain to funds disbursed by the association in 1951. There are also two copies of the treasurer's report for 1950-1951 and a handwritten notice that the financial records for the ADML for 1950-1951 were audited and found to be in order.

The ALC met as a delegate body biennially in October, the time and place of which was determined by the president and Board of Trustees. All boards and standing committees sent their reports to the president at least sixty days before the convention, so that he could have them printed and sent to the delegates twenty days before the biennial meeting.
